Collection of Tailored Overland Kits
We put these kits together by hand in the most space affective way possible without damaging the contents. Our own experience comes in handy for this.
They are made up of numerous items and different quantities of these items, from a bunch of different stores. The kits take time to put together and we purchase most of the items from retail stores, depending on availability of the items. Quite often we have to go around to more than one store to complete the kits.
As a result, these kits should be viewed as a means to save time in putting them together instead of only a collection of their contents.
~ The Goal with our kits ~
-
Any vehicle-based adventure is limited by space and weight. The items you do load up therefore have to be justified.
We aim to only carry items that are worth having when things get tough and you’ve got to sort out an issue.
It’s like the spare-wheel principle. You hope to never need it on your travels, but you have to carry it on every journey.
-
Some of these kits are made up of a handful of suppliers. But for the most part they all require a fair amount of driving around between numerous stores.
Due to availability we often have to improvise with similar products that will make the cut or go looking at a different store all together.
All this running around along with packaging takes time…
-
Having items with multiple uses, small but crucial items, different variants that will meet the same needs… These are some of the factors we’ve already researched and incorporated into the kits.
Repair Kit
What is in the Kit?
-
Everything you’ll need for daily checks and unexpected but crucial top ups.
-
Vehicle and accessory specific.
-
An assortment to make big and small plans.
-
Some plans need a hole-free bit of rubber, fixing leaks and joining pipes.
-
For all the vehicle lights. Safety and legality.
-
Some plans require a sticky solution.
-
From the 12V system to mending broken metal.
Main Goal: Fixing any minor issues around the vehicle or equipment in the middle of nowhere.
This is a kit that we have put together with the help of Paul Marsh. The items are chosen in order to be able to deal with issues most common on Overlanding journeys without taking too much valuable space.
These items are not vehicle specific. It's a general repair kit.
The kits are packaged in either a Front Runner Cub box or a longer but shallower plastic container, depending on what will suit your vehicle best.
Things happen when traveling, and even more so when traveling on your own in a vehicle to places where help is not a phone call away. Having certain items with you won’t always fix the issue, but it could keep you going to where you can have it fixed.
Spares Kit
These kits are put together based on each client’s specific needs. The vehicle, the timeline and route are all taken into account to determine which spares should go along on your trip.
As with most adventure past-times, weight and space are two critical aspects. Both relate to the gear we take on our travels. Certain problems however are “call a tow truck” showstoppers, many of which can be dealt with by carrying a few simple spares.
So we try our best to find the balance between keeping the wheels turning, and not over-packing.
Main Goal: Being prepared for higher probability, show-stopping vehicle breakages in the middle of nowhere.
These items are vehicle and trip specific.
We'll talk about where you're heading and for how long.
We'll collect the parts and have them at your vehicle once you arrive.
The price is calculated at retail cost plus 10% with the time taken to purchase and collect the spares added beyond this cost. The reason for this is that availability of certain spares often requires us to go to different suppliers to collect the items.
Overlander’s Tool Kit
What will you be ready for?
-
Accessories often need to be tightened after extended rough roads.
Running repairs could also require certain different tools.
Regular and preventative checks could lead to fastening crucial components, such as suspension, additional perimeter or spotlights, drawer systems, etc.
-
Electrics are part of any expedition. Being able to find problems and fix them often means the difference between a cold drink and spoiled perishables. You don’t need a lot, but it’s critical.
-
Whether it’s shaping some metal or needing a socket you didn’t think, this Tool Kit enables you to make a plan with an automotive focus.
Main Goal: Carrying tools to deal with most issues that could arise while traveling. The basics one could need to get to help and make running repairs.
We’ve out these kits together with the help of Paul Marsh. These items are selected to enable the fixing of most issues that arise while traveling.
Most of the items satisfy more than one use, justifying their weight and space.
We use Melvill & Moon Tool bags. Very high quality, durable and simple. Their size make packing them into a vehicle easy, without having hard surfaces that scratch around.
We package these tools in such a way that they take up the least amount of space possible.
On many occasions the tools carried in vehicles aren’t needed. But, just like a spare wheel it remains good practice to have them with you.
On many trips we’ve never needed any tools. We arrive back home and take the tool bags out just as we packed them. But then on that one trip when something unexpected happened, you end up needing a few spanners, a screwdriver and even the odd allenkey.
It’s true, you don’t always need to know how to use everything you carry with you. However, the person stopping to help you ( or the person in need of your assistance ) might say, “If only we had one of those …”. Chances are, you’ll have it with you, take it out of your Tool Kit and give it to that person. And the fixing and continue.
As overland travelers ourselves we appreciate the concepts of weight and space. We understand that these are two constraints that need to be respected, especially when it comes to gear like tools that you hope to never need. Therefore we only suggest carrying items that we ourselves also carry in our own Tool Kit.
You don’t want to be carrying things you never use. But worse will it be to need something you should always carry.
Sometimes the unexpected requires more than just the usual…
Recovery Kit
Main Goal: Getting the vehicle unstuck safely.
Ratings and item are based on each specific vehicles' details.
Items are influenced by what clients already have (if applicable).
Safety Items are non-negotiable.
Each vehicle is unique in its recovery points, weight, and planned travels. Being able to get a vehicle unstuck is a basic requirement for traveling to remote places. Having everything you need and nothing you don’t is important when weight and space are crucial to keep to a minimum.
The recovery kit we suggest to clients is based on our experience and expertise in traveling to remote places.
Each kit will be formulated with the client to meet their specific needs given their vehicle and planned travels.
Overland First Aid Kit - Trauma
Items are focused on Trauma in a wilderness setting.
Contents are based on experience and Wilderness First Aid Training.
Comprehensive contents.
The items in these kits are closer to real items used by medical professionals in the wilderness than to “over the counter” items.
Quality and preparedness are the main focus points on these items.
Some of these items do require specific skills, and therefore a “one-size fits all” is not the name of the game. We discuss the items with each individual client and explain the uses of the items.
It must be noted that these kits do not include any self-medication. Any specific medication applicable to allergies, etc. must be added to this kit or stored in conjunction with it.
Main Goal: Dealing with vehicle and wilderness activity related incidents.
Individual First Aid Kit
Main Goal: Dealing with an incident when pinned in the driver/passenger seat.
Designed to be the arms-length bag to grab from the driver seat.
It doesn’t have everything to be seen as a Trauma kit dealing with multiple injuries or casualties. Rather, it provides just enough to not take up any significant space inside a vehicle, while still providing you with heavy-duty items to deal with a serious situation where you can’t get out of the vehicle.
